A Child Laughs And A Mother Crys
The small joys that are stolen quickly become a part of the past. Oh, how this dear mother wished they would last.
As the years go by and her daughter's laughter gets older, it's a distant sound now as her sweet girl has only gotten colder. Yes, she has lost her way, yes she has gone astray, by your inability to accept her makes her feel more like the loner.
Where did I go wrong?
Dear mother wonders as she recounts her teenage years. The blame a mother gives herself also gives her extra years that seem to be laced with tears. This is no way for a mother to live, losing her laughter too.
Neither of you ever knew what exactly to do. Maybe love is too strong and strangulation, or it brings suffocation with its due.
Dear mother cannot give up, can not understand, will not let go, and becomes all consumed.
She is lost and I cannot help her, her laughter I have not heard in years. It is a distant memory. As is my shelter. She seems to live only in misery. How do I pull her out of the trenches, pick her up and show her the way? I want her to take my hand, but she only pulls away. Can I give her the smile she lost so long ago? How do I fix her? She is broken.
You cannot, dear mother, make her laughter come back, and it's not from the love that you lack. You must understand she is her own girl and all the good inside her. That came from my dear mother.
She will take her own path and march to her drum. Your approval, no matter she walks, is all she has wanted. It is not you who caused this. Please understand. She remembers the days when you used to hold her hand.
But days have passed and the pain lasts. The scars seem to be deep inside her.
It’s a love she lost all on her own, but keep praying dear mother, maybe one day you can accept her and she will feel like she is welcome back home.
